This converted factory in Kendall Square is a throwback
to the heyday of the neighborhood’s industrial past.
The 300,000-square-foot complex, made up of four buildings
connected by indoor and covered outdoor walkways, was formerly
a pump factory, and later made B-17 bomber parts —
and later still, car fasteners (check out the interesting
history display in the lobby).
Today, after being thoroughly transformed for residential
use and awarded for its historic renovation (while still
maintaining a hip, urban industrial feel), the one-, two-,
and three-bedroom units are a loft-lover’s dream.
Choose from 40 different floor plans, some with bi-level
living areas. With so much available, it’s important
to speak your mind. Looking for a private entrance? Two
floors? Two bedrooms? Two baths? Huge windows for lots of
light? Exposed beams? A balcony? Separate kitchen? Make
your desires known.
For all to enjoy, there’s a good-sized fitness center
with several cardio machines, weights, a television, and
a sitting area; two bike storage areas; a glistening, smart
card–operated laundry facility (featuring poster-sized
prints before and after the building’s renovation);
and a huge open-air lobby (look up — the atrium soars
up four stories to a skylight above). Outside, landscaped
courtyard areas wind between the buildings.
This is a quiet, stately yet modern, loft complex, boasting
jaw-dropping views of the Boston skyline. You’re close
to the high-tech, high-intellect Kendall Square area (including
the T station); for more neighborhood information, see the
FYI section. If you’re looking for a modern loft feel,
but hope to capture some of Boston’s turn-of-the-century
history, you’ll want to call this home.
