What is a "Green" Building?

Green Development is an environmentally responsible way to build and live. By using recycled materials that otherwise would be in landfills, cutting down on water and electrical consumption and proving better air quality to the residence and community.

Choosing green is all about benefits, not compromise or sacrifices. The Macallen Building will not trade luxury for efficiency- they make choices in design and materials that benefit you first, and then continue to work positively for our city, our community and the world as a whole.

The Macallen seeks to achieve one of the highest levels of the national LEED Green Building Rating Systems Certifications
Through innovative technologies, the building will save over 600,000 gallons of water annually, while consuming 30% less electricity than a conventional building (exact % will be provided in final LEED MATRIX)
Utilizes significant amounts of natural and recycled materials, including cotton insulation, bamboo flooring, recycled natural fiber carpet, cork, linoleum, and recycled steel
Abundant natural light, reducing the need for additional lighting and heating during off peak hours
Fresh air ducted to every unit for best indoor air quality
The planted, green roof will provide storm water run-off relief and functional insulation, furthermore, it improves the surrounding environment by producing oxygen and alleviating ambient heat
Active recycling program with recycling rooms on every floor
